Introduction to Silver Clay - Beginners

This workshop is aimed at the beginner with little or no experience of working with metal clay. During the day you will be guided through the step by step techniques of handling, shaping, forming and adding texture with all the essential techniques to achieve a professional finish to your work.

We work with two of the main Silver Clay products to make three different pieces. We aim to give you the skills and techniques that become the sound foundation for achieving the best results with silver metal clay. You will be inspired with further samples on display so you can go away to apply your own creative ideas to your new skills.

Included in the day:-

  • introduce the tools and equipment, what alternatives are suitable
  • preparing and handling the clay
  • making a pendant using lump clay
  • adding texture, form and shape
  • construction and layering
  • creating holes
  • drying times and temperatures
  • refinement methods
  • different firing methods and procedures
  • polishing techniques
  • make a leaf pendant using clay paste
15g of lump clay will be supplied, with use of the studio paste pot. If you wish to make more or larger pieces then you can purchase additional clay on the day.

You will pick up tips on

  • how to reconstitute clay
  • storing the clay
  • reducing wastage
  • hallmarking and the law
and much more with further samples on display to inspire you.
