Craftworx has secured and exclusive contract with Terry Kovalcik for 2012. Terry has his own very unique way to making hinges to apply to his stunning lockets.
During this three day master class, we will explore the process of making a box using silver PMC. It can be a small decorative box that sits on a table or slips into your pocket. It can be a pendant that holds something close to your heart. The choice will be yours.
In this workshop, we cover how to use PMC+ lump, PMC3 paste, PMC3 lump and PMC+ paper/sheet. Using all these materials to create this box, will give each participant a better understanding of the unique qualities of each material.
The techniques we examine will entail pattern making (paper templates), dry construction, rolling textures, hinges, riveting and closures. Each participant will learn to accurately cut the elements and assemble them to create the final box.
Participants will also explore the unique versatility of PMC3 paste using my Viscosity Painting technique. Each person will learn how to apply the paste as a painting medium to any PMC surface - even on the inside of their box to create interesting bas-relief effects.
Decorating the inside adds to the overall design and becomes the wear’s little secret that they can share with whomever they wish.
Once the carcass of the box has been fired, each participant will learn to how to use sterling
wire for a hinge pin and a lid closure.
