Raden & Resin - Intermediate

Resin is sometimes referred to as cold enamelling. It can be simulated to look as good as some of the finest enamelled pieces, using similar techniques such as Cloisonné, Basse-taille or Plique-à-jour. The extra advantage of using resin over enamelling is it can be used clear or with added colour, or can include items such as flowers or photo's.

The Raden technique uses Mother of Pearl and inlays it into silver to create the most beautiful patterns and designs. Use other interesting objects to create the most interesting contemporary jewellery.

During this workshop you will make two pair of earrings that demonstrate the technique. First we will use the simulated Cloisonné technique. This creates cells for individual colours of the resin to remain contained. Then we will progress to find out how to make Plique-à-jour style earrings. This is where the resin appears to be suspended in the open frame to look like a stain glass window.

15g of lump clay will be supplied, with use of the studio paste pot as well as the resins. For the suggested project tasks, if you require to make more or larger pieces then you can purchase extra clay on the day from the studio
