Precision Piercing – Intermediate/Advanced

Learn how to pierce your work in metal clay like a professional, traditional metal smith. Creating apertures or negative spaces can offer elements of style and grace to create light and volume to your pieces of jewellery.

You will design your own template to make in paper then transfer the design onto the clay. You will have full instruction to achieve clean precision cuts in the clay to minimise the need for refining and sanding at plaster dry stage.

Included in the day:-

• introduce the tools and equipment, what alternatives are suitable
• preparing and handling the clay
• adding texture, form and shape
• making pattern templates
• construction and layering
• creating apertures
• refinement methods
• different firing methods and procedures
• polishing techniques
  

and much more with further samples on display to inspire you.

15g of lump clay will be supplied, with use of the studio paste pot and syringe. For the suggested project tasks, if you require to make more or larger pieces then you can purchase extra clay on the day from the studio
