During this two day workshop we will cover making colourful enamelled bird pendants with 24k gold highlights using two different techniques for creating the areas to be enamelled.
Joy will guide you through making pendants in silver clay using very shallow textures especially suited to enamelling. You will learn tips and tricks to create the best surface on the silver for the enamel, how to create shallow recesses for enamelling into and how to make bails and decorate the reverse of your piece including adding small stones. We will be inspired and use the techniques applied by Joy's bird motifs from her bird a week challenge , but you are free to adapt the techniques to your own ideas and designs.
Once the pieces are fired and polished you will learn Joy’s unique Enamelled Accents technique for adding wires to make free standing cells for enamel. After covering how to prepare the enamels to get the brightest clearest colours you will learn how to wet lay them onto your piece and how different colour enamels can be used together.
You will add rich gold highlights to your pendants using the ancient technique of keum boo, and finally patinate them to accentuate the bright gold and enamel colours.
During this workshop you will use a range of enamel colours that you will be able to take home with you afterwards.
Some previous basic experience with silver clay is advised. The cost of the master class includes an enamelling kit. |
